Personal Statement:
Being given the opportunity to play this role in guiding Greenwood is the honor of a lifetime for me. My ancestors have been in this area for over 150 years. Stories handed down through generations have become part of life for me and for many others. I had friends in college who called me "Mr. Greenwood" because of the tales of Greenwood's past and colorful characters that I would share with anyone who would listen! Greenwood was for me then and still is the ideal place to live and raise a family. I am proud to be a part of Greenwood's rich heritage, colorful past and bright future.
We have a way of life here that is the envy of the region and that should be jealously guarded. We have earned the right to pick and choose how we grow and to judiciously manage our potential so that our community remains the ideal place for our children and theirs!
Occupation & Education:
I previously held positions as President of the Greenwood Chamber of Commerce and President of a company that built and operated bonded and public warehouses and freight distribution centers in seven states. I was then and for several years before that in private legal practice. Upon completion my Doctor of Jurisprudence at the University of Arkansas School of Law, I held a faculty/staff position there. My undergraduate degree is in Political Science and Pubic Administration. I graduated in 1977 from Greenwood High School.
Personal Information:
My wife - Sabrina Randall Edwards - and I have two children and live in Greenwood's oldest neighborhood. We travel, garden, cook and entertain when not busy with our volunteer efforts or the school activities of our teenage children.
Community Service:
Sabrina and I are both from families that place emphasis on community service commitments. We organized the Mayor's Community Improvements Committee to engage the views and energies of other civic minded Greenwood area residents. My family has been active in the South Sebastian County Historical Society since its inception and Sabrina is an officer in the Greenwood Garden Club. I was a charter member of the Greenwood Rotary Club and we are active members of the Greenwood United Methodist Church. Our children are taking their place in community service as well-working on our recently unveiled recycling center. I serve on several statewide committees and boards.
My Key Issues:
Law and government are not complicated. They must provide what is basically expected of them or citizens loose respect for the system. My goal is to give citizens more than they expect, involve citizens who are passionate about Greenwood and provide the "quality of place" amenities that attract newcomers who compliment our small town way of life. Projects like our Parks and Trails Program, and recycling, to name a few, work because of the volunteers who are making them happen. These amenities, in addition to high quality municipal services, inspire a "pride of place" that ensures Greenwood's well thought out and enthusiastic development that is progressive and not just growth.
