The month of December will be full of shopping opportunities, good food and affordable family entertainment and activities all in our wonderful town of Greenwood. The “Celebration” kicks off on Monday, December 1st with the traditional Christmas Parade and pre-parade activities. Starting at 5:00 p.m. Greenwood Chamber Members and Merchants will serve free beans and cornbread and hot chocolate on the square. The lights on the square will be turned on by Mayor Edwards at 6:45 p.m. with a fireworks fan fare. The square will be filled with music starting at 5 pm. The parade will begin at 7 p.m. sharp traveling from Gary Street down Main and to the square. Santa will visit with children prior to the parade from 5 pm to 6:45 pm in his Santa House on the square.
The Greenwood Kiwanis Club will be lighting Bell Park on December 1st for a drive thru Christmas Light Show. More than 25 lighted displays will be lined up along the park drive for viewing. There will be a $3 per car charge with proceeds going to the Bell Park fund and Kiwanis Club. The displays will be on at 7 p.m. Until 10 p.m., December 1-30. The lighted displays will be sponsored by area businesses and individual donors. The Greenwood Rotary Club will light the large pavilion with a star featured high above to be seen from 10 Spur.
Town will be filled with runners on December 6th for the Annual Yule 5K Run. Registration begins at 8 a.m. in the Means Wilkinson Community Room. Race organizers expect more than 120 runners that day.
Merchants will open their doors at 1 p.m. on Sunday, December 7th for the annual Merchants Christmas Open House. Gifts, food, decorations and merchant wares will be on display to kick off the shopping season. This annual event draws people from all over the area. In addition the Greenwood United Methodist Church will host their annual Tasting Tea from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. The church is located at 10 W Denver Street. The Greenwood Rotary Club will sponsor a Country Christmas Show featuring Carl Acuff Jr. on December 20th at 7 p.m. in the Greenwood High School Performing Arts Center.
