Three Quarter Per Cent Sales Tax Facts
- This is a renewal of the existing tax, not a new one and is for a period of 10 years
- Because Greenwood has several large businesses that are “Hub” retailers attracting customers from many rural areas, a substantial portion of the tax is paid by residents from outside the City limits.
- The tax provides a large percentage of the funding for the Fire Department. Greenwood is a Class 2 rated fire protection city, placing it in the top 5% of all cities in the U.S.
- Greenwood has one of the nicest small town parks systems in Arkansas. Our parks are well maintained; new features and amenities are constantly added to make our city attractive and provide great leisure and outdoor opportunities for our residents.
- The Street Department constantly repairs and improves city streets and sidewalks. Dozens of street projects have been done with the sales tax funds in the past few years and dozens more are scheduled for the near future.
- The sales tax is used to match State grants for parks, street projects and fire equipment so it is often multiplied by up to 400%.
- This tax is about public safety. The dedicated tax allows the general fund to pay for the Police Department. Greenwood is one of the safest cities in Arkansas as a result.
- Renewing the Three Quarter Per Cent Sales Tax gives Greenwood the opportunity to stay safe, healthy and prosperous for the next generation.
